I don't even know how to begin to explain our latest calamities...
I work in the Archive of a television station. When a documentary producer or publisher sees something in one of our programs or websites that they would like to use in their own film, book or website, they call us to license it. On Monday we received news that our little unit of four would be cut by 30% (one layoff, one person had hours reduced). The cuts occurred because in this time of economic depression we weren't bringing in enough money.
Worse still, last year our lawyers crafted a new filming release form that all of our productions must have signed at each location they shoot. The new form is so restrictive that the footage shot there may not be sold, licensed or even reused by our own productions. I see a rather deadly conflict in this. And yet it has been demanded that we find new ways to increase licensing revenues.
The form bore its poison fruit today, when I pulled one from the legal file for some footage of the Greenland ice sheet. Not only did we have a form signed by an alleged "owner" of the glacier, but our legal department upheld the document, seeing no absurdity at all in the idea that this person has the legal right or claim to own the Greenland ice sheet. I fear we are not long for this world.
There was one bright spot in my day:

I saw "Moon" at the theater yesterday with my dad. It was a very enjoyable sci-fi film and after a time it was easy to forget you were watching only one actor for 90 minutes or so. It was also a dark and biting commentary on corporate culture. The opening credits listed the director as a guy named Duncan Jones. The name rang a bell, but I couldn't quite place it. And then it hit me like a ton of bricks. Talent runs in the family! I found a pic of Duncan and his proud daddy from the "Moon" premiere at the Sundance Film Festival.
On this day in Buck-Tick history in 1991, the band ended their "Kurutta Taiyou" tour in their hometown of Gunma at Gunma Ongaku Center. I love that these guys never, ever forget where they came from. Scans today from several issues of Buck-Tick Club covering the tour and more:

So I really wanted to watch some Buck-Tick tonight. I popped in a DVD I made of DIQ 2003...and it looked terrible D: Okay, I'll try a store-bought disc. Popped in "Warp Days". Looked like S#@t. Then "Xanadu"...

I got the most wonderful birthday gift from
brainwhisper; the Korean limited edition of "Azur et Asmar" with illustrated story book and bonus disc. This is simply the most jaw-dropping and impossibly gorgeous animated film I have ever seen. Stills and screen caps cannot do it justice. I gasped when the images flashed across my screen - repeatedly. I will likely have to watch this again and again before I can convince myself that such a work really exists O_O! I also took an unexpected nap yesterday D: I'm still under the weather and am hoping with every hoping bone in my body that I will get well soon. Today, birthday celebration with my Dad : )
I accepted the letter meme yesterday from
susperia1 If you want to take part tell me and I'll randomly give you a letter.
I was given the letter "C", so I have to list a bunch of things I like beginning with "C". In no particular order:
1. cake. It is good :9
2. cats. They're purry.
3. Cannibal! The Musical. Cause it's really funny : )
4. Cocker. Jarvis Cocker. Cause old crushes never die.
5. Chocolate. Well duh.
6. Coffee. Because I need to be conscious.
7. Curiosity. It makes us smarter and more interesting.
8. COSMOS. Y'all know what that is, right?
9. Chum Churum. My current favorite brand of soju 8P
10.Chouriço. It's sooooooo yummy!

Whether I like it or not, I'm officially, irrevocably, sinking into middle-age. Thankfully I have have a group of very nice friends who made this occasion a lot less painful. It was sweet and fun even ^_^

It's been a long month. I've had a sinus infection for four weeks now and just got some antibiotics on Tuesday. It was good cause I got to go out that evening with the women of Awesomesauce plus our special guest
luxvesperis and her friend. I might have been a little out of it, but I enjoyed our dinner and company enormously :9 And I was the big winner of the night cause
luxvesperis left me her set of pans. I have have a reason to try to cook a little more often. Thank you <3 I'm a little worried because I don't feel as well as I should today. The drugs have usually worked by now. And I fell behind on the scan pile this month. June's a busy B-T month!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads everywhere! I'll be spending today with mine and there's a good chance some steaks will have to be sacrificed :9
On this day in Buck-Tick history way back in 1988, the band released its second album for Victor, "Seventh Heaven." To me this album is like a little miracle; released only 7 months after "SexualXXXXX!" and just 4 months after "Romanesque," it plays like a mini greatest hits album. How they ever found time to come up with songs like "...In Heaven," "Physical Neurose," "Victims of Love," and the super-cute "Memories" in such short time is quite an accomplishment! Scans today from the July 1988 issues of Rockin' On Japan and a few others ; )

When I came home tonight there were two baby raccoons huddled against the door of my building *dies from cute* They weren't going anywhere so I jangled my keys and eventually they scurried off into the bushes.
Bought a bottle of soju that was too tall for my fridge.
Ran into a favorite friend at the Super 88 and totally gave her the wrong date for our next outing. *oopsie* I blame the margaritas.
Screamed along with Redd Kross's cover of "I'll Meet You Halfway" over and over and over as we drove into Allston. Yes, the Partridge Family song : ) Since that one doesn't exist on Youtube (why?????) "Jimmy's Fantasy" will have to do.
EDIT: omg! the original! That David Cassidy sure was awesome. I'm gonna hate myself tomorrow.
And the evening started out so peaceful and respectable. Margarita has the power to make me sing.
